Dr. Avi Raveh is a natural product, medicinal chemist who joined the BLAVATNIK CENTER for Drug Discovery after finalizing a post doctoral fellowship at the UniversIty of Michigan Life Sciences Institute mentored by Prof. David H. Sherman. Dr. Raveh earned his B.Sc, M.Sc and Ph.D at the Tel Aviv University School of Chemistry studying biological active natural products under the supervision of Prof. Shmuel Carmeli. After Graduating he joined Prof. Michal Sharon at the Department of Biological Chemistry and Prof. Irit Sagi at the Department of Biological Regulation in the Weizmann Institute of Science for a short postdoctoral fellowship studying the COP9 signalosome regulatory system.

Dr. Raveh has a broad range of experiences in analytical and spectroscopic methods, expertise in HPLC isolation of pure active metabolites from complex mixtures, HR-LC-MS interpretation, and structure elucidation of novel compounds using NMR, supplemented with skills in organic synthesis. During his research he also gained wide microbiology knowledge of bacteria isolation, microbial cultivation, HTS bioactivity assays and fundamental molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, such as genome sequencing and annotation, protein purification and the design, performance and evaluation of in vitro assays.

During his research Dr. Raveh isolated and elucidated the structure of more than 40 biologically active compounds, 22 of them are novel compounds with various biological activities such as anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-malarial. These compounds were isolated from various organisms such as fungi, cyanobacteria and marine Streptomyces, his work was published in 12 research articles published in leading peer reviewed journals.
