 Dr. Elvira Haimov

Head of the Medicinal Chemistry Unit (Former Member)

Dr. Elvira Haimov is an organic chemist who joined the BLAVATNIK CENTER for Drug Discovery as the head of Medicinal Chemistry unit after conducting several positions in Teva TAPI R&D. Dr. Haimov finalized her Ph.D. in 2015 under the guidance of Prof. Ilan Marek at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. During her doctoral studies on the topic of “Stereoselective synthesis of polysubstituted ketone enolates,” Dr. Haimov was responsible for tutorials, seminars, laboratory work and supervision of bachelor and master students. Dr. Haimov published her doctoral research work in well-respected journals, managed to upgrade her studies toward the synthesis of polyketide fragments using her well-developed methodology. During her studies, Dr. Haimov received various scholarships and awards as the Schulich Fellowship; Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael (KKL); Rachel and Selim Benin and others.

At July 2016 she has completed her postdoctoral research, working in collaboration with "ADAMA- Agricultural Solutions Ltd." During her postdoctoral studies, she was developing a novel and efficient methodology for the synthesis of an active compound used in crop protection.

After finalizing her postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Haimov began her industrial carrier at Teva Pharmaceuticals as Sr. Manager, TAPI R&D Outsourced Project Development.  She was responsible for managing the scientific aspects of all outsourced projects of TAPI. At her next position at TEVA, Dr. Haimov was a Chemical Team Leader, responsible for the initiation; strategy and management of the generation of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient from their synthesis up to the production. Dr. Haimov was also responsible for the solid-state characterization and polymorphism search as a Physical Team Leader at TAPI R&D, working in collaboration with the sourcing; patent and registration departments.

In the course of her academic and industrial career, Dr. Haimov gained extensive experience in projects management and practical and theoretical organic chemistry, performing a wide range of different reactions, solving and optimizing various synthetic challenges.
